Mosquitos Research Unit
The unit includes mosquitos lab and sand fly lab.
Prediction emergence or re-emergence and control mosquitos and sand flies all over Egypt especially in the borders of the country and in previous hotspots.
Updating and completing maps of mosquitos and sand flies densities in Egypt.
Mission and tasks of the unit:
The unit aims to
1- support researchers interested in studying mosquitoes in all scientific fields in universities and research institutes as well as researchers within RIME
-p2- articipates various research organizations in several research activities, including:
1- A-Surveillance of different mosquito species throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt and classifying them to their taxonomic ranks in the laboratory.
B- Participation in-field evaluation of pesticides efficacy by recording the presence of different mosquito species with their densities before and after treatment.
C- Surveillance of different mosquito species throughout the year in order to measure the impact of environmental factors on mosquito species that present
at one point, in addition to predicting the diseases expected to appear in the event of a sudden emergence of new disease vectors.
D- Rearing susceptible laboratory colonies:
i- To support research in and out Institute, as well as graduate students in all universities, with
the mosquitoes necessary to support research and scientific Theses with guidance if necessary.
ii- To support experiments for registering pesticides with suitable mosquitoes, at the Pesticide
Research Department of the Institute.
iii- To participate in experiments to assess pesticide sensitivity in the governorates.
5- Finally, training is one of the most important activities of the unit, as the mosquito research unit offers a group of training courses for students of scientific colleges, graduate students and graduates interested in the field of medical entomology.
